Birds at the Artis Royal Zoo in Amsterdam

The Artis Royal Zoo in Amsterdam was a wonderful place to see a great variety of birds and a lot were wild and nesting like the Heron and Egret.  A lot of birds  congregating round this lake and it was fabulous to watch them.

In this post you will see Common Crane (above), Heron, Pelican, Egret, Cormorant (below).

Although the light was not good for photography(in fact raining) and the nests were high in the trees, through binoculars we were able to see these Heron with their young on their nests.

There were also White stork, House Sparrow, along with the other usual small birds like Tits and finches.

Even on the roofs were the Heron and Egyptian Geese looking down at us.

Very close was a nesting Cormorant, more Heron, Pelican
and a sleeping Mallard.

Thank for visiting and also for leaving comments.

  1. Hi I've just hopped over from Elephant's Child blog... I've been to Northern Ireland in the past and may get there again from Australia... if I do I would be looking for Puffins.

  4. Wonderful pictures today! I love the large birds in the nests up high, so many of them. They have a crowded neighborhood! I never heard of a common Crane. Another favorite is the Stork, you hardly ever see one on blogs!

  7. Great shots. I'd rather have the even light of overcast skies than sunshine... Well done.
